Analysis of the fountain

Salvi was greatly influenced by Bernini's fountains and statues.  He was also inspired by Bernini's integration of sculpture and architecture in his fountains.  In the center, Oceanus commands the Tritons taming the two horses in the currents that translate to a control over the water.  To the left a Triton instead of blowing on a conch shell to order the waters to calm, he orders the frightened horse to calm down.  On the right, the other Triton blows a conch shell to announce the arrival of his master rather than to quiet the waters, as his horse is calm.
